The Georgia Fair

John and I went to the Georgia Fair in Perry last night and we had a really good time! We thought we would have a relaxing uneventful stroll through all of the exhibits and then of course eat everything in sight. Well we were in for a big surprise!!!

We were meeting Rick, Gina and Ashtyn in the Poultry Building because Rick had to work the booth for a couple of hours for his job at Purdue. John and I were walking around looking for this red and white building Rick told us to look for. We heard a couple of people talking about a Bull that had got loose, but thought that it had happened earlier. Ahhhhh finally, we see the Red and white Poultry building and are walking towards it when a police officer says, "Excuse me but you are not allowed to walk that way, please come back this way." And we are thinking why not? Thats when we see the Bull tied up to the Poultry Feed Container. A Bull had gotten loose and was running through the fair with his trainer running after him yelling "Run, Run" The Bull had tried to bump people with his head as he ran by, but thankfully no one got hurt!

Here is the Bull tied up to the Poultry Feed Container. The poor thing had blood running from his nose becuase he was fighting against the rope that had him tied up.

So we found a back door to the Poultry Building and got in. The large front doors were closed because the Bull was tied up only a few feet away from the door. There was a small window on the side of the building where the Bull was tied up and we had a clear view of the Bull and the many police officers that were surrounding it.

We starting asking people what had happened before we arrived. We found out that about 10 men had caught the Bull and were wrestling with it to try and get it tied up. After quite a fight they finally tied it up to the Poultry Feed Container as you see in the picture above. The next thing we see is the trainer arrives with his truck and trailer to get the Bull back in the trailer. He backed up the trailer pretty close to the Bull. They opened the back gate of the trailer which blocked the Bull on one side. The trainer tied a second rope to the nose ring of the Bull and pulled it through the trailer and out the side and asked a police officer to hold it tight. The trainer then untied the first rope from the Poultry Feed Container and the police officer was "supposed" to pull back on the rope so the Bull would go inside the trailer. Well that didn't happen. The Bull started fighting and came around the side of the trailer where the police officer was holding the rope and police officer got scared and let go of the rope. The Bull, now free, starting running again.

Now the excitement starts........A smart police officer decides that he is going to shoot the Bull to stop it. Now you can image, in a fair with something like this going on, there are people standing around everywhere watching what is going on. So this officer puts 2 bullets in the Bulls shoulder as he is running away. Yes, a gun, not a tranquilizer ot a tazer, a gun. And then all of the officers go running off after the Bull again. A few minutes later we heard 5 more shots on the other side of a building. We heard later that they had finally caught the Bull and it was on the way to the vet to be seen. The trainer was extremely mad that his Bull had been shot and said that he would be sending the Vet bill to the Perry Police Department.

After all of the excitement died down, here come the police officers back to the Poultry Building and right behind them the Perry Police Department Crime Scene Van. They placed a couple of cups over the bullet shells so that no one would touch them until the investigation could start.

Here you see the armed guard watching over the 2 bullet shells so that no one would touch them. (Well what they didn't know was that someone in our group had already touched the shells and picked them up to look at them and then quickly put them back where they were. Great....now the Crime Scene Investigation will never be resolved) HAHA

Once the crime scene van arrived the officers began their investigation. They had to measure from each bullet shell to the doors of the Poultry Building where we were. Not sure what insightful information this gave them, but they acted like they were working on a terrorist investigation. One of the officers told us, "Can you people please move back into the building we are getting ready to run some crime scene tape."

Many of the people standing around watching were furious that the police officer had made the 2 shots with all of the people standing around. Yes, he made his decision thinking he was protecting the crowd from the angry bull, but he didn't look at his surroundings before he shot. Gina and I decided that we were going to ask Bro Marcantel (who is a Police Officer in a nearby city) to find out all of the police department details and let us know. We are quite curious!!

Well, by this time I am so hungry that my stomach is making strange noises. I told John, "Can we please go get something to eat?" Everybody knows that the only reason that we go to the fair is to eat, and eat and eat and eat and then get sick that night! So we walked down where all of the food booths were and John got a Polish Sausage Dog and a soda. I got a Jumbo Corn Dog and a soda. Well when we were done with that I asked. Can I get a piece of pizza? Sure he says, so I got a LARGE slice of Cheese Pizza and ate that. By this time it was getting close to 10:00 when the fair starts to close up. John says, do you want to get a Funnel Cake before all of the booths close up? I thought he would never ask!! Of course. So we got a funnel cake with extra powdered sugar. YUMMMMM It was sooooo good. John was holding the funnel cake and walking around looking at trucks with Rick and I had to keep following him to get my fair share of the funnel cake!!

We had a really great time, and on the way home John asked me, "Do you want to go to the fair again on Friday night with Paul and Heather? Did you really think you had to ask me!!! Of course I want to go again! I can try something else to eat!!

Well hello, you don't know me or anything, but that was my dad's bull..my little brother and sister were showing their steers the night before and the "trainer", J.R, had taken them home and brought the bulls back down from Winder to show them the next night. Well, my husband is in the Air Force so I live just in Warner Robins. J.R was staying with us..he called me right after all this happened and told me to let my dad know and told me it would probably be in the newspaper. That is how i found your blog, looking to see if it had come up yet. Anyways, i'm glad to hear that no one got hurt. Also wanted to let you know that the vet saw him and he's going to be just fine.
